Welcome!
My name is Evan Tinklenberg, and I’m the Campus Pastor at Geneva Campus Church. I serve that congregation in various ways during our times of gathered worship and beyond, but my main role is as the pastor of students, faculty, and staff at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
This newsletter is a window into all that I’m doing on campus (or at least, as much as can fit in a reasonably-sized email), and I’d be grateful if you reached out to have a conversation, or if you shared it with someone you think would appreciate it.
What does ‘Numen Lumen’ mean?
The motto of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, numen lumen, was once rendered “God, our light” before being progressively broadened (and, perhaps, reduced) into a ‘spiritual’ or ‘intellectual’ illumination more amenable to a modern secular research university.
In my work, I hope to retain the original sense of the phrase, pointing members of the university community to the God who is Light, in whom there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5). This newsletter’s mission is to bring all of my work under that Divine Light, to work as a campus minister always before the face of God (coram Deo), and to offer all my work to God in prayer and thanksgiving.
Why subscribe?
Subscribing gets you looped in on all communications from me about Geneva Campus Church’s campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. You’ll get updates about what’s happening, pastoral and theological reflections on campus life and ministry, and more. Most importantly, you’ll be informed on how to pray for this work.
Here’s how you can support me.
Financial gifts present an opportunity to share in the good news that God so loved us that he gave himself for us. He gave himself for the students, faculty, and staff at UW-Madison, and if you believe in this work I’d encourage you to donate any amount. If you are unable to give in that way, please consider praying for this ministry at particular moments throughout the week.
